How to keep key text out of social media UI overlays

Social placements often add buttons, captions, account names, and other interface elements around creative. The exact overlays vary by placement and can change, so do not rely on one universal safe-area measurement.

Keep the message resilient

Place the core message, product, logo, and call to action away from edges. Treat decorative backgrounds as flexible; treat key information as protected.

A practical preview method

  1. Choose the exact placement and aspect ratio.
  2. Export at the intended dimensions.
  3. Preview the asset in the platform’s current placement preview when available.
  4. Check the top, bottom, and sides for overlays or cropping.
  5. Review on a narrow mobile screen as well as a desktop display.

What to protect

Do not shrink all the text to fit. Simplify the message or create a separate layout for the placement if needed.

Put it into practice: Use the UTM Link Builder, Social Image Resizer, or Content Brief Builder where relevant, then check the final output before publishing.

Worked example: a vertical ad with a low headline

A vertical creative may look balanced in an image editor but lose its headline beneath platform controls in the live placement. Preview it at the intended aspect ratio, keep essential copy and logos away from edges, and check the actual placement preview before launch. Exact overlays vary by platform and format, so use the current in-platform preview as the final check.

Resize a test export with the Social Image Resizer and use the ad creative launch checklist.

Editorial note: Platform specifications and analytics interfaces change. Confirm current requirements in the channel or analytics product you use before launching a campaign.
